Higher Education Faculty Workshop: Completing the NAEYC Higher Education Accreditation Process
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Fees: $199 standard/premium members; $249 entry level members/nonmembers
This full-day workshop is designed for higher education faculty who are engaged in NAEYC Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs. This workshop will focus on the new NAEYC higher education accreditation standards and the Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators; creating key assessments that align with the standards; and using candidate performance data to improve programs. It will be helpful for those who are preparing to submit self-study reports, meeting interim reporting requirements, or responding to conditions.
Teaching Beyond the Screen Time Debates: Rethinking Digital and Media Literacy for Early Childhood
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Fees: $239 standard/premium members; $299 entry level members/nonmembers
Principle 9 in NAEYC’s DAP position statement says, “Effective uses of technology and media by children are active, hands-on, engaging, and empowering.” As we put this into practice it quickly becomes clear that it’s about so much more than teaching with the latest app, video, or device; it’s about how we help children become literate in a digital world. Like traditional literacy, that means it’s about curiosity, collaboration, connection, creativity, and choices. It’s about recognizing teachable moments and knowing how to nurture habits of inquiry while following children’s lead. It’s about acknowledging the challenges presented by technology and responding with wonder and imagination rather than fear. And it’s easier than you think.
Want to find out how? Join authors Faith Rogow (Media Literacy for Young Children) and Victoria Fantozzi, (Digital Tools for Learning, Creating & Thinking) for a full day event. You’ll walk away knowing more about relevant research and pedagogy, along with practical strategies you can adapt to your own work with young children. You’re invited to bring along your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to take full advantage of the session’s resources.
