Addressing Challenging Behavior in Young Children: The Leader's Role
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Fee: $239 for standard/premium members; $299 for entry level members/nonmembers
Leaders of early childhood programs and schools play a crucial role in making it possible for children with challenging behavior to remain in school, behave appropriately, and learn. But running a program or school for young children isn’t easy—and it becomes much harder when there is a child with challenging behavior in the mix. This session will enable those who head early childhood centers, preschools, elementary schools, and before-and after-school programs to define yourselves as a leader, understand your leadership style, learn how a child with challenging behavior impacts your leadership skills, help staff and families understand the importance of keeping a child with challenging behavior in the program, enable staff to harness the power of prevention, support them through change, and develop effective ways to respond to a child’s challenging behavior
Barbara Kaiser, MA, is a behavior specialist, trainer, and a consultant. Barbara is the co-author of NAEYC’s recent publication, Addressing Challenging Behavior in Young Children: The Leader’s Role (2021)

Preparing for NAEYC’s Higher Education Accreditation Part #1: New Higher Education Accreditation Standards
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Fee: $99 for standard/premium members; $119 for entry level members/nonmembers
NAEYC’s higher education accreditation system is designed to support programs’ continuous improvement efforts for preparing effective early childhood educators as well as to serve as an arbiter of ECE degree quality. Presenters will provide a high-level overview of the new accreditation standards (issued in Fall 2021), walk through expectations for completing the Self-Study Report and share strategies for going through self-study. This session is designed for ECE higher education programs that are in self-study (or will soon be applying) for first-time accreditation or are preparing for renewal accreditation using the 2021 Higher Education Accreditation Standards. Programs submitting Self-Study Reports in 2023 and beyond must use these standards.
NAEYC Higher Education Accreditation Part #2: Creating Quality Key Assessments and Quality Candidate Performance Data Collection Systems
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Fee: $99 for standard/premium members; $119 for entry level members/nonmembers
Central to NAEYC’s higher education accreditation system is a focus on ensuring programs are preparing graduates to be proficient in the necessary competencies for effective practice. The accreditation system and ECE degree programs use key assessments as one of the primary indicators of candidate proficiency. This session is designed to support faculty in creating quality key assessments that are aligned to the competencies of the ECE profession and that meaningfully measure candidate performance on the competencies. Presenters will also address strategies for creating reliable data collection systems that facilitate analysis and use of the candidate performance data generated by the key assessments.
